About Steve Howse

Academic
An adjunct professor at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, Steve teaches business strategy and business-to-business marketing for the Masters of Communications Management, Masters of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Commerce programs. He is also a guest lecturer for the MBA level Corporate Reputation & Brand Management, Business Valuations, and Crisis Management & Communications courses. He completed his Chartered Director Certification in January 2007 and, subsequently, joined the faculty of the Directors College and leads modules on IT Strategy and the risks associated with it as well as the Brand Reputation module.

Business Leader
Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University in 1988 and embarked on a highly successful sales career in the telecom industry, which found him transplanted across the country to Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and back to Southern Ontario. He has supported clients in Canada, the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, and Australia. By 1993, Steve was promoted to his first management role and over the next twelve years held progressively more senior roles with both start-up organizations (TMI and Maxlink) and large corporations (Ericsson and TELUS). Areas of responsibility in management included sales, product marketing, marketing communications, distribution, customer service and service delivery in support of the following verticals:

  • three levels of government
  • finance and banking
  • retail
  • transportation (air, rail, courier and trucking)
  • information technology
  • quick serve food (QSR) in both large national/global and SME markets

Volunteer
One of the many lessons passed down by his grandfather was  “when you give to the community, give of yourself”.

Steve is:

  • Chairman of the Board for the Canadian Football Hall of Fame,
  • a past member of the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Halton Board of Directors
  • a board member for the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, Advica Health, and Globility Communications
  • on the Leadership Council with McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation.

He is married to Jen Howse and they have two daughters, Cassandra and Sarena. With what little free time is left, he enjoys playing hockey and golf.
